TOPSTONES is a world-leading supplier of tumbled gemstones with over 35 years of experience. We produce some 60 tons of tumbled gemstones a month in up to 150 varieties. All stones are mechanically screened for their sizes and individually hand sorted for quality. 

MANUFACTURING
Not only do we process all South African stones, but also import from Africa, the Americas, Europe and Far East and in fact anywhere where suitable raw materials are to be found. After processing these at our factory in Simon's Town where we employ 110 people, the majority of our stones are exported to all corners of the world. 

WHOLESALE
We supply other Wholesalers, Retailers and various South African businesses with all their stone requirements. These include rough rocks, mineral specimens, polished ornamental stones, beads, bracelets and other jewellery. We also cater for the meta-physical market supplying crystal balls, massage wands, chakra stones, books, etc. 

FACTORY SHOPS 
Presently we have 3 retail shops (Mineral World/Scratch Patch that offer anything and everything to do with Gemstones, from inexpensive gifts and jewellery to fashionable gold and silver items and faceted stones). Our Shops are at Simon's Town (Topstones Factory), the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, and the West Coast Ostrich Farm. 

SCRATCH PATCH
This is a unique concept which allows visitors to "scratch" around on a bed of stones spread over the ground in an attractive outdoor environment. They select whatever stones they want and only pay for the bag they fill. Scratch Patches are situated with the Mineral World Retail Shops in Simon's Town, the V&A Waterfront and the West Coast Ostrich Farm (N7, Van Schoorsdrif Road, Philadelphia).

Marie-Luise Parkhouse bought the looms and other equipment of a Karakul wool weaving operation which was founded in 1979. She was able to re-employ the most experienced staff thus saving 15 employees from being made redundant. Some of the ladies have been weaving since 1985 and this is the only work that they know. Thus Woven Arts of Africa was founded, which is the only weaving operation of its kind in Windhoek. The workshop/showroom is situated a short walk from the centre of the city in the courtyard of the Old Brewery Complex behind the African Craft Centre.

Jagoda Gems is a privately owned company, established in 1991 through the foreign investment program. Its goal is to render skills in the fields of cutting and polishing of gemstones, jewellery manufacturing and the grading and preparation of rough (mined) material for the international market. The owners first came to Zambia in 1984 and for 6 years worked with other companies developing their mines in the east and south of the country. While production methods in those days were labour intensive, Zambia became recognised as a new source of fine rough gemstones, most notably for aquamarine, emerald and amethyst. The marketing of these stones was however, very difficult given the lack of exposure to those other than the few buyers in the trade who ventured to these parts of Africa. Intent on resolving this hurdle, Jagoda has established a wide international market base, not only for its own production but also to assist other mining companies in Zambia find the much needed turn-over to develop their mines and further their marketing skills.

With the huge demand for Tanzanites, Diamonds and Gem Stones internationally, we now specialise in these rare and beautiful stones. The demand far exceeds supply. However, we are in the most fortunate position of being able to supply very good quality stones. The hardness of these gems is 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs Scale of hardness, the same as Peridot, Jasper, Chalcedony and Tiger's Eye. Care should be taken wearing rings made-up with Tanzanites.  Earrings and pendants set with Tanzanites are not subject to the same wear and tear as rings, but should also be carefully looked after as well.  COLOUR: Blue/Violet or Violet/Blue. Actually there are 3 colours and flashes of red may be seen. REFRACTIVE INDEX: 1.691 to 1.700. CERTIFICATES: Each Tanzanite is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each certificate shows Cut, Colour, Clarity and Caratage.
