Namdeb is a wholly owned subsidiary of Namdeb Holdings (Proprietary) Limited Holdings which is owned in equal shares (50:50) by the Government of the Republic of Namibia and De Beers. Namdeb performs land-based prospecting (exploration), mining and rehabilitation operation and services for Namdeb Holdings. The heart of the operations is along the southwest coast of Namibia with the main land-based operations in Oranjemund and satellite mines near Lüderitz and along the Orange River. Several types of innovative mining techniques are employed to extract diamonds from alluvial deposits of ore bodies. Mining techniques using specialised equipment such as, vacuum extractors, dredgers, floating treatment plants and probe drilling platforms are used to extract the resource. Namdeb's rich history goes as far back as 1920 when diamond-mining companies along the Orange River were amalgamated to form Consolidated Diamond Mines (CDM). In 1994 CDM entered into a new partnership with the Namibian Government and Namdeb was formed. In 2011, the ownership structure for Namdeb changed when the Government of the Republic of Namibia and De Beers signed a new structure agreement which rearranged and equalised the shareholding structure of Namdeb and De Beers Marine Namibia.
