An African inspired refuge, where world-class facilities combine with the spiritual energy, allure and unique beauty, for which the Matobo Hills is so celebrated. This exclusive, privately owned safari lodge, is in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Matobo Hills, and situated only 45kms from Bulawayo. Tucked away into an ancient Bushman's shelter, Camp Amalinda was voted top 3 Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe in 2010.The granite domes and castle kopjes of the Matobo Hills, echo the essence of tranquility and the majesty of untamed Africa where mammal and bird species are prolific. Included here are the highest concentrations of Leopard and Black Eagle in the world, as well as a healthy population of the endangered Black and White Rhino.Nestled in this unique range of hills is Camp Amalinda. Amalinda consists of nine individually thatched rooms including 2 honeymoon suites, which are set into the huge boulders. These 2 suites have just recently been refurbished and it brings us great pleasure to introduce to you for the first time "The Lobengula Suite" and "The Rhodes Suite". Each are steeped in African historical artefacts of a bygone era from these two famous men who once walked around these very rocks.  Tucked away into an ancient bushman's shelter, Camp Amalinda's charm will leave an indelible impression on every visitor, it's spirituality almost tangible. Some of the most majestic granite scenery in the world is found in the Matobo Hills. It is here that the hopes, trials and tribulations of the San Bushmen are recorded in the ancient rock art.

The Royal Mara is located in the Mara North Conservancy of the Masai Mara, on a peninsula in the popular "Hippo Bend Lagoon" section of the Mara River. The lodge is within proximity of the world famous migration river crossing points of "Koyiaki-Kichwa" and "Mara Serena" as well as the leopard hangout at Leopard Gorge, highlighted on the BBC Big Cat Diary program. We are located on the migration route where, during the migration season of July to November, thousands of wildebeest converge on the camp periphery to graze. From January to April when the grasses are tall in the National Reserve area, most of the herbivores and lions of the Reserve migrate to the Mara North Conservancy area of the Royal Mara due to its shorter grasses, thereby making game drives near us the preference for most camps of the eastern Masai Mara. The camp marsh, resident hippo pools, lagoon and waterhole make game viewing inside the Royal Mara site, in combination with game drives, an unforgettable safari experience. Most of our guests are rewarded with views of all of the Big Five buffalo, lion, elephant, leopard and rhino. Transportation: For maximum comfort it is recommended that guests access us by air. Roundtrip airfare charges between Nairobi's Wilson Airport and the Masai Mara cost upwards of $300 depending on the season and not including taxes. Air transport to the Masai Mara is available twice daily from Nairobi's Wilson Airport via scheduled forty minute to one hour flights on air charter companies such as SafariLink, Air Kenya or Fly540 to the nearest local airstrip near the Royal Mara. The preferred airstrip is Mara North airstrip (10 min from the camp). Airstrip transfers between Mara North airstrip and Royal Mara are complimentary. Coastal flights are also available between the Masai Mara and coastal destinations such as Diani Beach, Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu. Connecting flights to Zanzibar are also available, but passengers will first need to make a connecting flight out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi), Wilson Airport (Nairobi), or Mombasa. When you make your booking we suggest we also arrange your air transport so that we may coordinate flights with other guests. For guests requiring assistance, we can arrange for transfers (at a supplementary cost) from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Nairobi's Wilson Airport, about a thirty minute drive away. The camp may also be reached via a six hour drive from Nairobi which may prove bumpy. We can also assist you with land transportation and/or needed Nairobi hotel bookings.

The team of people behind Ibo Island Lodge are both professional and dynamic. We are also deeply passionate about our lodge and product, and the positive impact it has made on this once forgotten island of Ibo. As a team of industry professionals we have travelled Mozambique from top to bottom and spent many years promoting and packaging this unique destination to guests from all over the world. When we first found Ibo Island we knew that we had to share this incredibly special discovery, so we built a lodge and planted our roots. Our lodge management team, guides, ground staff, housekeepers and sales and reservations team are some of the best in our industry, and we are all committed to the on-going positive growth and development of Ibo Island Lodge. Our reservations office is in Cape Town. Our ground operations are based in Pemba and our lodge is set on Ibo Island in the pristine Quirimbas Archipelago of northern Mozambique. If you have any questions about our website or our products, please don't hesitate to contact us.  Kevin and Fiona Record: Founders and Owners  In many ways the profile of the company and that of its founders are one and the same story. Since 1993, when they first lost their hearts to Mozambique, Kevin and Fiona Record have invested their all into realizing their dream of establishing a truly sustainable lodge on Ibo Island as well as launching a series of brands specialising in tour operating in Mozambique. That they have achieved their first objective on Ibo Island is evidenced by the positive impact that the lodge has made to a large portion of Ibo islands population, while maintaining a respectful relationship with its ecology and heritage. Ibo Island Lodge, the lodge they had dreamt of for all these years, has been a labour of love. Not only by the founders, but by the local people of Ibo. 'When we first embarked on the rehabilitation project on Ibo we know that many people thought we had bitten off way more than we could chew! The ruins we bought whilst magnificent in potential were literally swaying in the wind… Roofs open to the sky, great chunks of coral walls collapsing around us and rampant fig tree's growing through the windows and deep into the foundations… We've re-laid those foundations, preserved original tiles, shutters, panelled doors and antique pieces we found on Ibo. We dismantled ancient ruined pillars to rebuild them again. We've cast new roofs by hand, worked with traditional lime -purchased and handmade from the islanders and employed and imparted new skills to over 140 people all from Ibo. We planted grass, flowers and over 200 trees. We have a huge responsibility on Ibo to show the local community the power that sustainable eco-tourism can have on their island, on their lives and on the lives of their children. We were not just building a lodge, we were constructing hopes and dreams for a future. Ibo Island Lodge has been a labour of love, developed with courage, passion and vision by all involved. We hope we have created a lodge as beautiful as the island itself and look forward to welcoming you to magical Ibo Island.
