There are 22 tanneries in Ethiopia and Gellan Tannery is the Youngest Tannery of all. In the previous time among the exporters of semi processed hides and skins Gellan Tannery stood 7th on the exporter's day of 2009/2010. The major markets are the European, Indian and Far East Leather Company's. These potential buyers are the companies in Netherlands, Italy, India, China and Pakistan. There is a great work with these Chinese and Indian companies. Gellan Tannery was established in January 2006. Its Sole proprietor and owner is Ato Nuru Husein, was once a big merchant of raw skins. Gellan Tannery is located in Easternshowa zone, Lome woreda. It got this name from Burth placesomewhat how 75kms from Addis Ababa. The company's Head office is in Addis Ababa, Arada Sub city Kebele 01/02 House No. 603 & 606 traditionally called Atekelte Tera, KelifaBuilding. Gellan is organized as follows at the top there is the General Manager, the son of the owner and below him there are four major departments.  •Production and Technique Department  •Commercial Department  •Finance Department  •Administration & General Service Department.    The staff members of these departments are to some extent experienced and highly qualified ones.  

Blue Nile Tannery is a subsidiary of Gaafar enterprise and it has been operational since 1992. Located at Sebeta, in the out skirts of Addis Ababa, Blue Nile tannery produces finished leather products for the shoe industry. It processes goat, sheep and hide leather to finished products. Its present annual production capacity is 3 million square feet of sheep shoe upper, 1.2 million square feet of goat suede and 0.72 million square feet of cow calf. The products of the tannery are mainly (90%) targeted to foreign market and the remaining (10%) being directed to the local market. The company plans to increase its production and the amount of finished products it delivers to the international market.
