We produce a selection of liqueurs extracting the juice from locally produced fruits and other fresh ingredients from the nearby market. Among our drinks are the uniquely named Coco Lemunacoomo, Kombonella, Cocolime, Chocana and Cashewo.We produce a range of quality Gambian fruit and chocolate liqueurs using home grown fruits and fresh produce from the local markets. It is a most peculiar fruit growing like an apple but with one cashew nut hanging on the bottom of the fruit. Zimbabwe is one of the world's leading competitive producers of high quality tobacco. The tobacco industry plays a vital role in the economy in terms of foreign currency generation and employment creation. Tobacco contributes about a third of the total foreign currency earnings of the country and directly employs more than one million people, and many more in the down stream industries.Tobacco is grown in "15 districts" that are categorised into slow, medium and fast growing areas. The largest hectarage under tobacco ever attained in Zimbabwe was 92 000 hectares in the late 1990s, while the highest ever achieved production of flue cured tobacco was 237 million kg in 2000. There has been, however, a steady decline in both hectarage and yields since then to as low as 55 million kg in the 2005/06 tobacco season. There are concerted efforts from all stakeholders to rebound the tobacco industry, and in the 2006/2007 season 75 million kg are expected. Tobacco is marketed through the dual marketing system, that is, the contract and auction systems. The contract system was recently introduced to attract more contractors and investors as a strategy to reverse the current trend in tobacco production.The importance of the tobacco industry to the Zimbabwe economy led to the establishment of the Tobacco Research Board. The Tobacco Research Board is a statutory body re-constituted under the Tobacco Research Act of 1950, and is mandated to direct, control and conduct research on tobacco. It also undertakes both long-term research and short-term advisory and support services on request from growers and merchants. The Agri Co-Operative Training and Consultancy Services Ltd. ATC has been registered as a Company Limited in September 2007 and is fully owned by the Co-operative College of Kenya. Together with Kenya Agriculture Commodity Exchange, KACE, a private company distributing market information to Kenyan farmer, the Co-operative College of Kenya, with the support of the development partners, DED, HSS, GTZ and ACDI VOCA started the transition of a department of the Co-operative College into a private training and consultancy firm. Legal difficulties prolonged the process for more than 3 years, but in 2007 ATC was finally registered as a company. Since that time ATC has delivered more than 70 training courses to farmers, their organization and extension staff in the agricultural and co-operative sector in Kenya. The goal of approaching farming as a business is to increase the incomes of the rural poor, or to put more money in the farmers' pockets and into the rural economy. Tanganda is the largest producer, packer and distributor of tea products in Zimbabwe. Teas from our own estates are blended, packed and then distributed, locally, regionally and internationally. Its tea plantations are acknowledged internationally as being amongst the world's leaders in productivity. The company also produces quality coffee. Teas from our own tea estates are transported to our packing plant in Mutare, approximately 150 km from the estates. Here the teas are expertly blended and then packed into famous brands, such as Tanganda, Tips, Fresh Leaves and Stella.Recent investment into our factory ensures that we are able to produce packaged leaf teas and teabags, tagged or tagless, that are to world standards. Tea was first exported to South Africa in 1936, and to London in 1939. In 1943 the Meikles organization become the major shareholder, and remain so today.Coffee was first grown under this company in 1930. Today, over 2000 hectares are under tea on four different estates. Ratelshoek factory, with an annual capacity of 4000 tonnes of made tea, is the largest of the three tea factories and one of the largest in Africa, with six lines of manufacture. There are two other factories on Jersey and Zona estates. All of these estates are on the hills along the country's border with Mozambique. The fourth Tea estate is Avontuur, where 335ha of tea has been planted - all to new high-yielding, high quality clones - and construction of a new factory with Export Processing Zone status was completed in September 2000.All planted tea is irrigated to give consistent production. The manufactured tea is a combination of the best Assam seedling tea and an increasing proportion of new quality clonal types, giving made tea with bright liquors and good shelf life. Tanganda prides itself in being a reliable producer of the full range of tea grades, consistent quality, much sought after by buyers for the South African, English and Irish markets in particular. Tanganda on average produces over 56% of total Zimbabwe production of made tea, a record level of production for the country.Of this production, over 65% is exported to South Africa, the United Kingdom and other regional markets.
Based in Kampala, Uganda, is the largest producer of purified papain in Africa. Papain is a proteolytic enzyme used in a number of food, cosmetic and industrial applications. The enzyme is sourced from the Carica Papaya fruit. In order to obtain the enzyme, smallholders make an incision in the leaf or fruit of the unripened plant.
