Ambo Mineral Water has been bottled and marketed since 1930 and is considered the market leader in Ethiopia. The source of Ambo Mineral Water is a thermo-mineral spring, rich in natural calcium, magnesium, potassium, bicarbonates and carbon dioxide. The water originates in a volcanic fissure which then peculates through mountainous terrain eventually being tapped at the springs in Ambo Senkele, 130 km from Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia. These springs are located on the cross roads of an ancient, major trade route, and have been revitalizing travelers, traders, nomads, soldiers and settlers from the beginning of humankind.Ambo is a unique product, used by today's consumers as a thirst quenching soft-drink, discerning mixer and after meal revitalize. It comes from a unique part of the world and is regarded as an 'Ethiopian Icon'.The growing demand for Ambo both locally and abroad has resulted in new investments and plans to further expand capacity and packaging variations to meet and exceed consumer expectations.The name of  Ambo mineral water is originated from the name of the Ambo town situated about 125 km west of Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia. Over half a century ago dignitaries and members of the royal court frequently visited Ambo and made it resort town. Historical accounts abound about important personages who, upon recommendations by the medics of the day, went to Ambo to bathe in the sparkling and refreshing mineral water and to use it as medicinal nourishment for 7-14 days. This gave rise to studies by international organizations. For most among these was the pasture institute. Careful studies made with regards to the nature and content of the mineral water have reveled its curative qualities.

Meta Abo Brewery S.C. is established as a public enterprise under the regulation No. 64/1992 by the council of Ministers. The purposes of the Enterprise are:To manufacture, can and bottle all kinds of beer and other beverages whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic.To prepare and manufacture malt, hops, yeast, carbonic acid, gas and other ingredients of the products.To sell its products both locally and abroad, andTo engage generally in any other business conducive to the attainment of its purpose.We aim to play a leading role in quality beer production and sell its product both locally and abroad by manufacturing quality beer of all kinds and other beverages whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic in conformity with the Environmental Management systems and Regulation.Supply its products both locally and abroad at a competitive price  enhance its market share from time to time.Increase its productivity and profitability from time to time. Meta Abo Brewery is located in the town of Sebata, 27 km from Addis Ababa. The brewery was established in 1963 by the Ethiopian Government and Ethiopian private nationals as a share company with a starting capital base of 2 million Birr. Initially, the production capacity of the brewery was 50,000 hl. per annum. In 1970 the first expansion program took place, and the annual production capacity was raised to 120,000 hl. Later on, in 1980, the second expansion program was carried out. As a result of this program, the attainable production capacity reached 350,000 hl. Meta has been transformed into a share company with 83.28 million Birr paid in share capital as at December 31, 1998. The company has 83,284 ordinary shares with a par value of Birr 1000.00 each fully owned by the government.It is the only brewery which gets water from a big reserve of soft spring water (locally known as holy water of St. Abo). The spring water meets the international brew standard to be used without any treatment. The brewery produces bottled and draught beer. Bottled beer is supplied to all markets in the country, while draught beer is supplied to the city of Addis Ababa and the towns located within 120 km from Addis Ababa. The brewery has a liaison office and distribution center in Addis Ababa. The total land holding of the brewery is 369,000 m 2 of which 25,000 m 2 is a built-up area. A car park, recreation and horticultural farms occupy the major part of the brewery's premises.In 1998, Meta Abo Brewery produced and sold 365,000 hl. of bottled and draught beer worth Birr 195 million. In the same year, it made a profit of Birr 39.74 million.The brewery supplies 55% of its product to distributors and 45% to retailers. Distribution outside Addis Ababa is made through agents. The brewery distributes draught and bottled beer to Addis Ababa using its own truck fleet.The brewery's major raw materials are malt, hop extract, hop powder, and other chemicals. Except the hop extract, powder and chemicals that are imported from abroad, the major raw material, malt, is obtained from Assala Malt Factory at a distance of 200 km from the brewery. Bottles, corks and crates are obtained from factories located in Addis Ababa.

AWDA Pvt. Ltd. Co. was established in 1997 G.C with the objective of procurement, processing and export of best Ethiopian Arabica coffees to the entire world.  It is the continuation of the shareholders' effort, in the coffee sector where he has been investing and expanding the realm of the company.Mr. Alem Tessema started the business some three decades ago as a supplier of coffee for local consumption.  Consecutively, he managed to establish washed coffee pulping and sun-dried coffee hulling facilities in 'Yirgacheffe', thus supplying his product to the auction center of Addis Ababa.  Intensifying his activity Mr. Alem constructed the modern cleaning plant in Addis Ababa and started exporting coffee to overseas countries.Every Company has its own history of foundation and process. In the lifetime of a Company, it is obvious that there may be years of tremendous success and recoverable failures.  Like each and every other private Coffee Exporters in Ethiopia, AWDA has got its own history of foundation and progress, of which we are confident to say that AWDA's business history is simply a history of success.The overall business activities of the Company fall under the auspices of the General Manager Mr. Alem Tessema, who is also the owner of the Company. Apart from the General Manager the Company is well armed with experienced and qualified personal of various profession. It is well organized into functionally specialized departments. There are five functional departments pertaining to:Administration and Finance,Export and Documentation,Quality Control and Liquoring,Procurement,Production & technique.In total, the Company creates employment opportunity for 44 permanent and 700 temporary employees with a possible rise due to the rapid growth of the sector in the future.The total capital of the Company is around Br. 40 million. So the financial position of the Company is more than satisfactory and has not faced any cash shortage for both coffee processing and exporting businesses. The Company also has smooth relations with major financial institutions on short and long term financing. In sum, throughout its operation, AWDA works in a healthy financial position with a timely repayment of debts and gradual expansion.
