A few years ago Praia do Sol started as a small resort with only 6 dome tents and a small timber deck overlooking the lagoon. Now we have grown to accommodate 36 guests, but are small enough to pay you the special attention that you need. As the resort has grown, so have its staff, a group of people who have become like a family to us and will be a friend to you. This team has been with us for years to ensure that you receive great service. There is a 24-hour medical clinic now available in Bilene. All vehicles are parked in a secure parking area. The water is drinkable Borehole water. You should bring your own beach chairs and Umbrella's. The town power is often down, so, bring a Torch. There is a small safe at the reception, however, guests are to ensure, their valuables are kept safe at all times. Since 1993, when they first lost their hearts to Mozambique, Kevin and Fiona Record have invested their all into realizing their dream of establishing a truly sustainable lodge on Ibo Island as well as launching a series of brands specialising in tour operating in Mozambique. That they have achieved their first objective on Ibo Island is evidenced by the positive impact that the lodge has made to a large portion of Ibo islands population, while maintaining a respectful relationship with its ecology and heritage. Ibo Island Lodge, the lodge they had dreamt of for all these years, has been a labour of love. Not only by the founders, but by the local people of Ibo. 'When we first embarked on the rehabilitation project on Ibo we know that many people thought we had bitten off way more than we could chew! The ruins we bought whilst magnificent in potential were literally swaying in the wind… Roofs open to the sky, great chunks of coral walls collapsing around us and rampant fig tree's growing through the windows and deep into the foundations… We've re-laid those foundations, preserved original tiles, shutters, panelled doors and antique pieces we found on Ibo. We dismantled ancient ruined pillars to rebuild them again. We've cast new roofs by hand, worked with traditional lime -purchased and handmade from the islanders and employed and imparted new skills to over 140 people all from Ibo. We planted grass, flowers and over 200 trees. We have a huge responsibility on Ibo to show the local community the power that sustainable eco-tourism can have on their island, on their lives and on the lives of their children. We were not just building a lodge, we were constructing hopes and dreams for a future. Ibo Island Lodge has been a labour of love, developed with courage, passion and vision by all involved.
