Outspan Enterprises Ltd is one of the leading suppliers of organic food in East Africa exporting cocoa beans, coffee, maize grains, beans, green tea leaves to various markets around the world. The company was established in 1977 as an agricultural produce company. At the time, the company's major exports were; cocoa beans, coffee, maize grains, beans and green tea leaves for the conventional markets. In 1999, the company's management decided to venture into the production and export of Organic Agricultural Products under the project named Outspan Organagric Ltd. Initially, the project started with the export of Organic Sesame seed along with cotton and coffee and in 2000, Outspan introduced a new variety – Sesame II – which gave a better yield and had a higher oil content and has been a big success for all participating farmers. It was under this venture to expand in it's scope of export products that Outspan Enterprises Ltd has grown to be one of the leading exporters of Organic products in East Africa. The company now mainly deals in the export of Cotton lint, Sesame seed, Cocoa beans, Red birdeye chillies, Passion fruits, Dry Ginger and Mangoes which are all organically produced. With only 8 employees and the production and filling of the first Clere hand & body lotion bottle, WISPRO (U) LTD became established as Uganda's first manufacturer of personal care products in May 1996. Wispro is committed to continuous research & development, comprehensive marketing and commitment to social development, as has been demonstrated for over 10 years, in order to ensure win-win outcomes for all stakeholders: our staff, community, customers, and trading partners. Today, with 120 employees, we also happen to have 120 different products Wispro manufactures in Uganda, traded under the popular brand names of Body Glow, Body Talk, Chemico, Clere, Dear Heart, Easy Waves, Girlfriend, Glosheen, Jackie, Lulu, Satiskin, Sofn’free, Sta-Sof-Fro Thunder, Top Society and White Rose. Product range includes: Hand and Body lotions, Nail Varnishes and Nail Varnish Removers, Perfumery, Liquid Hand Soap, Household Disinfectant Cleaners, Dishwashing Soap and Petroleum Jellies. The quality of goods has passed the approval of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards whose guidelines are in harmony with many Western countries. In 2004, WISPRO received the Uganda National Bureau of Standards Mark of Quality Certification, and, as of today, is still the only bearer of this mark. Thanks to regional support by customers and consistent quality assurance by staff, WISPRO has been exporting to Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in addition to supplying the Ugandan market. Wispro, according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, exported the highest value of personal care products in the years 2003 and 2004. We are certain Wispro will win the prestigious President’s Export Award for 2005 as well.

In 1999, NCUL began as the only officially recognized distributor of the Claire® range of products in Uganda. At its inception, Nile Cosmetics recognized its ability to become more competitive through local manufacturing. Upon obtaining an exclusive production license for the Claire® range from Pearl Industries (UK), the shareholders invested into manufacturing equipment and started producing locally in February 2002. With the said equipment, Nile Cosmetics was able to successfully meet the demands of the local market. Since this original investment, Nile Cosmetics has purchased state of the art machinery allowing it to increase its production capacity four fold. NCUL has been successful in effectively manufacturing goods locally meeting the quality specifications as imposed by Pearl Industries; however it has also accomplished to set up an extensive network for sales of the goods. Further efforts are being put into delivery of goods to upcountry regions as well as exports to Rwanda, Congo, and Tanzania. Having achieved its position in the cosmetics market, NCUL has taken further steps to ensuring planning for further expansion in the Ugandan market. Nile Cosmetics secured the exclusive manufacturing rights to the Baby Soft® and Julie® ranges from Pearl Industries as well as Bigen® hair dye from Hoyu (Japan). Having secured these new licenses, Nile Cosmetics will be able to produce goods such as talcum powder, lotion, skin creams, petroleum jelly, and powder hair dye locally.

Inventory for these customers is transported from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban in South Africa on a daily basis and is distributed to all outlets throughout Namibia via our main distribution centre in Windhoek. Over the years the company has introduced a number of value-adding innovations to enhance the services available to its customers. To avoid long delays at the borders due to customs-clearing procedures, an own customs presence by Namibian customs officials has been established at the main distribution centre in Windhoek which is also registered as a bonded container depot . The company has also invested substantial capital in advanced computer technology over the past years. This has placed it in a position where its track-and-trace systems allow the customer to keep abreast of the delivery status of a consignment. All consignments are bar-coded and can be traced from the moment of dispatch until they reach their final destination. The system allows for electronic integration into other software, which enables us to offer on-line services to the customer. The latest business acquisition, Jet-X Couriers, has further increased the company’s scope of service delivery. Ownership of this reputable express courier business placed us in a position where overnight and next-day express road delivery services between Johannesburg and Cape Town to Windhoek for smaller urgent consignments can be offered to our customers. An overnight service between Windhoek and main centres in Namibia will also be introduced shortly. Jet-X also offers regional and international airfreight and clearing and forwarding services. To raise the level and scope of service delivery even more, F.P. du Toit Transport has recently established another subsidiary company that specialises in providing complete and effective logistical solutions to customers. By making use of the services of Africa Logistics (Pty) Ltd, trading as AFLOG, to manage and execute their inbound or outbound logistics chain, customers can now concentrate on their core business. Rather than spending excessively long hours on devising and managing their own logistical solutions, they can now leave this highly specialised function to a professional logistics management company that has an intimate knowledge of the Namibian and African business environment. Willie du Toit is the Managing Director of F.P. du Toit Transport and Dirkie Uys is the General Manager, both being recognised leaders in the Namibian transport industry. They are supported by a team of well-trained and experienced managers in their respective fields of operational, technical and financial management. The group of companies currently employs 324 people. Of particular significance is the fact that most of our drivers have long service records with the company, which enhances the safety standard. In line with the company’s business philosophy, size and growth are not considered to be main drivers. The fleet currently comprises about 100 power units and 140 trailers and is maintained at this level. This ensures that service levels and customer care are kept in line with our high standards. Only state-of-the-art German and American technology is employed in the prime mover fleet of which the entire component employed on the cross-border services are replaced every three years. Furthermore, to stay abreast with the latest technological developments in the transport industry, regular visits are undertaken to trade fairs and manufacturing plants all over the globe. We have one of the most modern and best-equipped heavy vehicle workshops in Namibia at our disposal. Here the emphasis is on preventative maintenance to ensure safe and speedy delivery of goods to their various destinations, especially in the view of the large quantities of time and temperature critical commodities the company handles.
